The Heliodorus "Pan and Daphnis". One sculpture is worth a thousand words.
ReplyDeleteI love that sculpture and am glad you've found some fairly large images of it. I've seen it in the original, and it was funny to watch the European tourists pretend not to notice what Pan has on his mind.
ReplyDeleteI have trouble believing those fractures were accidental. The piece was obviously broken up at some point, and I fancy it must have been savagely vandalized. At least the noses and penises weren't permanently smashed off, as is usual in that case.
Yeah that's the first thing I noticed too. Somebody banged the live'n crap out'a poor ol' Pan, and his boyfriend Daphnis.

Whereas it fills others with humor, joy of living, and horniness!
